Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy  is becoming a well-known form of therapy and is generally  recommended by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) as the treatment of choice for emotional and psychological problems.

CBT is based on the theory that thoughts, beliefs, emotions and behaviours are all linked. If you change one aspect of yourself or your life – belief, thought, feeling, communication or activity - it has a knock-on effect on the others. Even small changes can lead to large benefits.

The therapist and client work together to explore the client’s problems and to identify and implement ways of change.

A range of techniques are used to help with problems ranging from mild to severe. I use a conversational style of therapy although you may be asked to fill in some questionnaires or keep a diary of certain things. I help you decide on your goals and work towards achieving your goals.

We sometimes do work on Personality Schemas which helps you discover how your personality style may be holding you back in your relationships, preventing you from getting where you want to be in life or achieving what you want to achieve.

Relaxation techniques and visualisation are often a part of CBT work and  hypnotherapy can also be used.
